Salsa Roja

This salsa roja recipe may be a bit different than others you may have seen before. We love using tomatillos and dried chile de árbol for our salsa roja.

Salsa Roja

Course Sauces

Ingredients
  

  • 13 small tomatillos
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 white onion
  • 12 dried chile de árbol
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • On a flat top or in a cast iron skillet, without oil, char the tomatillos, garlic, onion and chile de árbol. Be careful not to get the chiles too brown or else the salsa will turn sour. Get good color on everything else. The tomatillos will char nicely and start to turn a bit yellow.
  • Once the veggies are charred, add them all to a blender and blend for 3-5 minutes until smooth.
